For 2021, the BRSCC have launched a new CityCar Cup for those either new to Motorsport or wanting a cost effective way to race. The series comes out of the need to make Motorsport more affordable and inclusive and with an on-track cost of £7,000 it certainly makes it a lot inviting to those looking to go racing.
The new CityCar Cup series was launched in 2020, the success and popularity of the CityCar Cup have resulted in it being approved by Motorsport UK for full Championship status for the 2021 race season.
The championship features 1.0 litre 3 door models of the 2005-2013 Toyota Aygo, Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1, with the carefully designed technical regulations. The regulations are designed to make the cars feel more like racing cars with adjustments to suspension and exhaust systems.
Driver safety changes including, a bespoke SW Motorsports roll cage along with adjustable GAZ Shocks coilover suspension, Nankang NS-2R tyres, Powerflex Suspension bushes, a remapped ECU, a sports exhaust and 15-inch alloy wheels.
The Cup, run by the BRSCC have teamed up with Essential Racing to make the changes to the cars. They can be easily self-built, and fully compliant cars can be made ready to race for around £7,000. Essential Racing will also supply ready built “turn-key” cars for those who may not want to build their own! All in all this sounds like a great way to include a bigger portion of the public who’d like to get into Motorsport.
If you’d like to find out some more information, see our championship page and dedicated to the CityCar Cup. You can also visit the BRSCC site to get started.
