Silverstone Circuit

Description

Silverstone is probably the most recognised circuit in the UK and is host to some of the most prestigious motorsport events. The circuit was turned from a WWII airfield into a Grand Prix racing circuit in 1948 featuring rudimentary hay bales and canvas barriers. Silverstones first event on the 2nd October saw an estimated 100,000 people flock to see Luigi Villoresi beat a field of 22 others in his Maserati. Located in Northamptonshire, Silverstone is a hub for motorsport with it’s own Porsche centre, handling track an Aston Martin test centre and a new heritage experience centre. A Hilton hotel, which will be built adjacent to the main straight will be finished in 2020.

The circuit has been through a number of changes and two major redesigns in 1990 and the latest in 2011 with the introduction of a new infield section and the Silverstone Wing.

The circuit has 4 primary layouts which include the Grand Prix Circuit, the International Circuit, the National Circuit and Stowe Circuit.

Due to the size of the venue, there are a huge number of events which take place all year round, from track day experiences to F1.
