NIKKI GILLATT

The Only Woman On The Grid

As a part of our driver interview series we caught up with Nikki Gillatt whilst she had some downtime between races. Nikki currently drives a Honda Civic Type R EP3 in the Club Enduro series, run and promoted by the 750 Motor Club.

This is Nikki’s first year in the Club Enduro championship driving the car with her father. The series, as the name suggests, features a 2 hour endurance event in which 4 classes race to complete as many laps as possible. Club Enduro is just as much about speed as it is about strategy and consistency, and drivers need a combination of all these in order to be in with a chance of winning.

Nikki’s first season was a great success with top 10 finishes across the board. Her focus for next year is to keep up with the front runners and continuing to learn both the car and the new tracks in the Club Enduro championship. “I’m really enjoying racing with my dad, Spa-Francorchamps is definitely my favourite track, it has all the best bits from the UK circuits rolled into one and Eau Rouge is just amazing.”

She has had quite a broad racing career to date, starting in karting and working her way up to a number of club level wins. Carrying her successes through to University Nicola set up a karting society at Sheffield Hallam and this actually ended up becoming one of the biggest karting associations in the UK!

She took a step up and joined the Brit Car championship driving a Mazda MX-5 with her father and they were both very successful, achieving a brilliant 3rd in the championship!

After a season in the BMW compact cup they moved to Club Enduro, where both father and daughter have big aspirations. “My ambitions next year are to become more consistent and get into a position where I outpace my dad. The Honda is definitely different to drive, it’s front wheel drive and will take some time to build up pace”.

Nikki wants to encourage other females into motorsport and automotive engineering. She has been the only woman on the grid in each championship so far and she’s looking to change that. On Instagram Nikki is currently hashtagging #theonlywomanonthegrid to generate a buzz around women in motorsport.
